Flower Gardening

People are growing fonder of flower gardening now more than ever. We are noticing the beauty of the bright colors, great smell, the beautiful esthetic, and home decoration. Growing a flower garden can be a great hobby that will not break your wallet. It is an exiting hobby to pick up and will give you great self-satisfaction when you can step back and view a project well done. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, retired, or want to garden for a living, flower gardening is a great hobby to pick up.

As with any garden experience before delving into the project it is best to take a step back and plan the outcome. A few things that need to be kept in mind are growing conditions, timeline of the flowers, color patterns etc. It is completely up to you but in my experience it is best to plan out first. There are many Internet resources now that can give you pictures and descriptions of flowers to help you along.

If you enjoy replacing flowers often to give a different look then you may want to go with annuals. Annuals grow for one season and then are replaced. There is also the class of flowers called perennials. Perennials will actually make it through the winter and come back for the summer season. A lot of people like to mix it up so you have a variety at different times of the season.

Another aspect that needs to be addressed is the conditions the flowers require to grow correctly. When planning and purchasing for your flower garden make sure to check the tags for the spectrum of sun required, the temperature needed, and the growing season.

I recommend purchasing flowers that are already started for you, instead of seeds to cultivate yourself. If you would rather do the seeds yourself, you can either order online or purchase in a local nursery. Once this part of your flower garden is done you can move onto preparation.

Before the flowers are going to go in the ground make sure you turn the dirt (a garden tiller can make this easy), and add a small portion of fertilizer. This is not absolutely necessary, but flowers will grow much easier in the correct surroundings. The next step is to lay the flowers down in the pattern you planned on. Take a step back and make sure this is the pattern you still want to keep. You are then ready to start the planting of the flowers. Dig a small whole and place the plant inside. If you are doing your own seedlings, dig a much smaller whole and sprinkle a few seed in each whole. This should set you up for the season as long as you water your flowers regularly. A garden hose and garden hose real can suffice.

Flower gardening is a fantastic hobby to get into. It does not take much to get started and as soon as you do you will not be able to let go. Flower gardens can give your home a fresh new scent and look for a very small price. I suggest a flower garden sooner than later, the work more than pays for itself and I can guarantee, you will be happy with your results.
